2023 The Kia Sportage will be available with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and a 2.0-liter diesel engine at launch, with hybrid and plug-in hybrid models to follow.

Four weeks after the South Korean carmaker unveiled the first official photographs of the new SUV, the full specs of the 2023 Kia Sportage have now been released.
Kia will sell the new Sportage in both long- and short-wheelbase configurations, depending on the market, and with a variety of engines. A 1.6-liter TGDI four-cylinder engine with 177 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque is available from the start. A 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine with 183 horsepower and remarkable 307 lb-ft of torque will also be available.

A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a seven-speed manual transmission will be available to go with the 1.6-liter TGDI engine. The R2.0-liter diesel is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission with a damper-controlled multi-disc torque converter that, according to Kia, improves fuel efficiency by expanding the lock-up range. A new oil pump has also been added to this eight-speed.

Other petrol and diesel engines are on the way, according to Kia, but no details have been released. Powertrains that are hybrid or plug-in hybrid are also in the works.

The N3 architecture underpins the 2023 Kia Sportage, which should make it more adept while off-roading. The SUV comes with an all-new Terrain Mode that automatically modifies settings according on the weather, including as snow, mud, and sand. For on-road driving, there are additional Comfort, Eco, Sport, and Smart driving modes. The Sportage also features Electric Control Suspension (ECS) that provides continuous damping control in real-time. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid models will also feature Kia’s high-tech E-Handling system.

The SUV has a plethora of safety measures. Kia's Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Highway Driving Assist (HDA), and Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control are all included (NSCC). Other Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis models get the same Remote Smart Parking Assist system as the Sportage.

Of course, no discussion of the new Sportage would be complete without mentioning the striking new exterior. A huge black tiger snout grille is seen at the front of the SUV, which is supplemented with boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights. An optional black roof and a chrome beltline that reaches up to the D-pillar help to emphasise the SUV's dramatic flanks. The Sportage is further distinguished from the back with LED taillights and a light bar.

For the 2023 Sportage, Kia will offer 17-, 18-, and 19-inch wheel types, depending on the standard. The SUV will be available in several trim levels depending on the region, but Kia has announced that an X-Line edition will be available, comparable to the Sportage X-Line and including a tough bumper, side sills, and a roof rack. A GT-Line model with vibrant colours and a black and white interior will also be available.

When it comes to the interior, it has seen nearly as many alterations as the outside. A 12-inch touchscreen is located in the centre of the cabin, along with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. A shift-by-wire transmission control is included in the centre console, which is likewise brand new.

The new Kia Sportage will go on sale in Europe this year as a 2022 model, and in the United States next year as a 2023 model.
