The Aurus Senat luxury limousine from Russia has begun production.

The Aurus Senat, Russia's Rolls-Royce-rivaling luxury vehicle, has begun production at a Yelabuga facility.

The Senat was supposed to debut in Europe during the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, with manufacturing set to begin in 2020.

NAMI, Russia's Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engine Institute, owns the new manufacturer. President Vladimir Putin was the driving force behind the development of Aurus Motors as a prestige project for the Kremlin.

According to the Vedomosti newspaper, Russia's Industry Minister Denis Manturov stated that roughly 200 to 300 Aurus Senats will be produced this year. According to Reuters, the Senat's entry-level version costs 18 million rubles (about $245,000 at current currency rates).

The Senat is available in two separate versions from Aurus: the larger L700 model is designed for use by state officials only, while the Senat S600 is available to regular users. In addition to the sedan, the Russian automaker will offer an SUV and a convertible vehicle.

A hybrid twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 developed in partnership with Porsche produces 590 horsepower and 649 pound-feet (880 Nm) of torque, and is mated to a nine-speed automated transmission and permanent all-wheel drive. Aurus has already stated that they intend to add a V12 option to their lineup.

Customers can choose a two-seat rear-seat layout with two separate reclining seats, a mini-fridge, airplane-style tables, and, of course, acres of leather and wood trim. Under a single glass panel, the dashboard has a dual-display layout.
