Rivian has announced that it would begin selling cars in Europe in early 2022.
The news was confirmed in an email issued by the electric automaker's Customer Engagement Center to prospective buyers in Europe. “We hope to expand sales throughout Europe some time in early 2022!” Rivian said in an email released online by the Rivian Owners Forum.
Rivian is set to begin deliveries in the United States later this month, with deliveries in Canada beginning in November, and it makes sense for the electric business to grow beyond North America. The email did not specify whether both the R1T and R1S will visit the Old Continent. Having said that, Europe's pickup truck market is far smaller than North America's, so it'll be interesting to see if the R1T pickup will be available alongside the R1S SUV.
Rivian founder and CEO R.J. Scaringe confirmed in late 2020 that the company would produce smaller models aimed at the Chinese and European markets.
“Having a production footprint outside the United States will be critical to actually scale in those areas as we bring on follow-on products,” Scaringe added. “That's a long way off. We wouldn't be serious about starting a car firm unless we considered China and Europe as long-term markets.”
Seats include heating and ventilation, as well as four-way power lumbar support.
Rivian gave us a thorough peek at the interior of the R1T last month. Vegan leather seats, ash wood trim, and a 100% recycled microfiber headliner are all options for the all-electric truck, depending on the model. It also has heated and ventilated front seats with eight-way power adjustment and four-way power lumbar support.
