Advantages👍
- The ride and handling are excellent.
Before you spend $50,000 on an Audi Q5, you could test drive this equipped Mazda CX-5 for $38,000. It's possible that it'll suffice. The CX-5's suspension is notably better than that of most other compact crossovers. It curves and handles quite well, diving in and gripping the road with minimal body lean. Simultaneously, the ride is supple. It absorbs road irregularities and reduces body motion more effectively than some more expensive vehicles. The intricacy of this car's suspension is astounding.
- (Sporty).
Crossovers are typically used as family commuting vehicles. They have a utilitarian bent to them. This one is sporty and enjoyable to drive. When you're not transporting a two-year-old hurling mashed peas from his car seat, the road holding and driving dynamics are terrific, the steering feel is fantastic, and the CX-5 is pleasant to drive.
- There is a lot of power.
Our CX-5 Signature AWD arrived with a 227-horsepower turbocharged engine that was more than enough to get the car moving. A non-turbo 2.5-liter engine with 187 horsepower is standard in lower model CX-5s.
- There's nothing but motor noise.
Except for the engine grumble, which is in line with the CX-5's sporty spirit, the cabin is fairly quiet. Noise from the road and the wind is well muffled.
- Interior design that is simple but elegant.
The inside of the CX-5 has a den-like feel to it. Everything in ours was black. The surfaces were cushioned and smooth. Rather from being bright, this is calming. We found the front and back seats to be very comfortable, and there was plenty of cargo space behind the back seats.
- Safety that is up to date.
All of the safety features that Car Talk recommends are standard on the Signature trim we tested. It also boasts a sharp, good-looking head-up display.
Disadvantages👎
- Controls for the infotainment system.
The infotainment controls are well-designed, although they aren't as simple to operate as some others. The system can be controlled using a rotary BMW-style controller or a touch screen. The little (but well-placed, high up) screen, on the other hand, might have used more space to display more icons at once. Instead, you must spin between the images until you locate what you're looking for, and the icons aren't as well labelled as they could be, making decoding them time-consuming. The navigation visuals resemble those of an older Garmin device. Improvements are rumoured to be on the way.
- The Mileage.
If you're seeking for the best mpg in a compact SUV, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Honda CR-V Hybrid are the vehicles to consider. The CX-5's advanced suspension and smoother ride come at a cost: it gets poor mileage for its class. Other automobiles use 7, 8, 9, and 10 speed transmissions, which enhance mileage. Overall, the EPA rates it at 24 mpg, though we got a touch less.
