The Ferrari SF90 Stradale is one of the most astounding supercars currently on the market, with no less than 986 horsepower on tap, and Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire recently had the opportunity to put it through its paces.
The SF90 Stradale is the first Ferrari to employ a hybrid powertrain in mass production (the LaFerrari was a limited run). It has a 4.0-liter V8 engine with twin turbochargers and three electric motors, two on the front axle and one between the internal combustion engine and the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The V8 produces 769 HP (780 PS / 574 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, with a total output of 986 HP (1,000 PS / 735 kW) when combined with the electric motors.
The SF90 Stradale, like other hybrids, offers regenerative braking, but according to the reviewer, Ferrari has set the brakes in such a way that you won't notice any difference, which isn't something you can say about many cars with this technology.
The SF90 has a lot going for it, as you might expect based on its performance. However, remarkable straight-line speed isn't the only thing it has going for it. While the car's eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is shared with other Ferrari models, Farah claims that it has been tuned specially for the SF90 Stradale to make transitions even smoother.
Ferrari also appears to have perfected the suspension of the car. It absorbs bumps with ease and is just as comfy as other Ferrari models.
That is, in fact, one of the SF90 Stradale's takeaways. Those who purchase it will be able to enjoy all of the power given by the hybrid powertrain without sacrificing the car's drivability and usability on the road.
