This 2003 VW Passat Wagon is a rare W8 6-Speed Manual.

In the early aughts, Volkswagen was at the pinnacle of its engineering daring, so it created the W8 engine. The W8 is effectively two narrow-angle VR engines joined by a common crankshaft, similar to the W16 used in modern Bugattis.

The 4.0-liter engine produces 275 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, which is distributed to all four wheels thanks to the 4Motion technology. However, because the setup is rather intricate, you're unlikely to avoid VW's reputation for hefty maintenance expenditures.

In all, VW sold just over 5,000 W8 Passats in the United States, but this one is extremely unusual. Not only is it a waggon, but it also has a strange eight-cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual transmission, making it one of just around 100 sold in the United States.

It also boasts a sports suspension, sunroof, leather interior, heated and power-adjustable front seats, wood trim, a Monsoon audio system, and other goodies.

However, there are certain flaws in this Passat. There is some rust on the exhaust system, the parking brake has to be adjusted, and there are some traces of age inside, in addition to minor scratches and stone chips. Furthermore, it has travelled 122,800 miles, so you should go into it with your eyes wide open. People who work on boats say you shouldn't purchase a yacht unless you can afford to purchase it three times, and that's probably a good mindset to have here.

The car is for sale on Cars & Bids, and the bidding finishes at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, May 28.
